This page is called the "Capcom Whores Out Dante" page, because this is the page where I tell you all the places where Capcom has whored one of their most popular characters. For someone who was supposed to be put into a Resident Evil game, the amount of places that Dante's been put is astounding. There was a rumor circulating of his appearance in Soul Caliber III, but obviously that was proven false. Anyway, he's popped up in a few surprising places. |
The first game (outside of his own) Dante appeared in was Viewtiful Joe. Viewtiful Joe was actually supposed to be an exclusive title to the GameCube, and well, we see how long that lasted. It was directed by Hideki Kamiya, the same director of the first Devil May Cry. To fill in a few gaps from his novel to the first game, Kamiya actually put in a side-story for the Playstation 2 version of Viewtiful Joe that featured Dante. It also features appearances by both Trish and the human-form of Alastor. |
| You can play through Dante's own story-mode, which is cool; and you get a little more of an insight into Kamiya's novel and the link between that and the first game. |
The second game Dante spreads his legs for is Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. Of course the MegaTen series is produced by Atlus, so we can't say that Capcom is just inventing new ways to stick Dante into games. In my opinion, Dante's appearance in this game is probably one of the reasons it made it over to the States. The game features Dante in his Devil May Cry 2 attire, chasing down the main character (named whatever you want to name him) after being hired by who he calls "the old man in the wheel chair". |
| The basic premise of the game reflects the struggle to create a new world after the old one ends (referred to as the "Conception"). The main character is turned into a half-demon by Lucifer, and wanders a post-apocalyptic world in search of ways to find his friends and school teacher. Dante, being a half-demon, half-human survives the end of the world, and is, of course, still working. He's hired by Lucifer ("the old man in the wheel chair") to find the candelabras to open the Labyrinth of Amala. He comes in contact with the main character twice. After fighting Dante twice, you're able to convince him to join your party, and he's referred to in the menu as "Fiend Dante". |
The idea of bringing Dante into a MegaTen game was actually suggested by one of the MegaTen team members who thought Dante was cool. Since the half-demon thing worked out well, Atlus got a hold of Capcom, they loved it, and thus Dante in MegaTen was born. However, in return for Dante appearing in Nocturne, Kazuma Kaneko, the character designer for Shin Megami Tensei, designed Dante and Vergil's Devil Triggers in the third game. Wack. |
This, as you can see, was just one of those crazy last-minute ideas that Capcom got. "Hey, let's add Dante here, he fits!" sort-of-thing. Dante appears in Capcom Fighting Evolution. It's his third incarnation, as you can see, the holsters on his back that support Ebony and Ivory. He's coming up behind then none other then Jedah Dohma from Darkstalkers, or Vampire Savior, presumably to kick his ass. This is the only appearance he makes in the game, in this tiny little animated video, and we don't even see his face. Could this mean that Dante will make it into the next Capcom vs. Something? Who knows. Solid Snake is now in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii. |
Also known as Sengoku Basara in Japan—Devil Kings was produced by the director of Resident Evil 4 (what Devil May Cry was supposed to be!), Hiroyuki Kobayashi; and Devil May Cry's character designer, Makoto Tsuchibayashi. Since the duo is also working on the production of Devil May Cry 4, it was inevitable that they'd stick something in Devil Kings. Venus, a stealth, ninja woman, looks a lot like Trish, both in looks and in dress-style. One of Lady Butterfly's weapons are called "Ebony & Ivory". There is also an unlockable sword called the "Sparda". |
