I don't know if I'm the only person who noticed this, but I do have quite a problem with the way that the first Devil May Cry ends. The first thing we see, at the beginning of the game, is Trish barging into Dante's office, destroying half of it, and sending the other half up in flames. After Dante gains the upper hand (and Trish throws his motorcycle at him) she takes off her glasses and reveals that ... Oh shit, she looks just like his human mother. Trish explains that Mundus, the Lord of the Underworld, plans to overtake the human world now that Sparda is gone. Obviously confused (and somewhat mentally torn), Dante tells Trish that she had better be telling the truth, or there will be Hell to pay. |
| Now don't get me wrong when I state this. Despite everything, I do like the role that Trish plays in Devil May Cry—However, it's Dante's Oedipus complex that baffles me. It's stated in the game, directly, that Trish was made to look like Dante's mother. |
| Pardon me, but that's some huge baggage there. We can more than assume that at the end of the game that Trish and Dante get together, as you see them both step out of his office. Trish supporting the Sparda, while Dante holds Alastor. I mean, has anyone except me noticed this? The hero gets the happy ending, but he ends up getting together with a woman who looks exactly like his mother. |
