Dante meets Nevan in the demonic opera house, where Nevan lures men with her songs. I have seen Nevan referred to as both "a Demon Goddess" and a "succubus", since she bites you in the middle of the fight, I'm actually going to assume that she's some form of succubus. Everyone who's familiar with the Castlevania series knows what a succubus is. If you're at a loss, I'll sum it up pretty quick. A succubus is a demoness who comes to men (especially monks, I've heard, and men of religious piety) and seduces them in their dreams by having intercourse with them. Through the sex, they steal the man's energy until they are to the point of exhaustion. Lilith has always been considered a succubus.
It's easy to see where the whole succubus thing comes from as soon as you look at her. Nevan is a green-tinted woman in a skirt of bats, having no top. Her hair covers her breasts, much like Eve is portrayed in many depictions of the Garden of Eden. Of course, they couldn't have a woman with her nipples hanging out, so I suppose that the actual context doesn't have anything to do with Eve, but everything to do with nudity.
Being a succubus, I couldn't find any relevant ties from the name "Nevan" to her actual character. The name actually means "Little Saint", in Irish, and is a rather rare name for a boy. I can't think of anything that it'd be other than a play on words. Using the oxymoron of "Little Saint" for a succubus is a interesting, considering that "Nevan" is a male name.
So when Dante meets her, he gives the most obvious "checking you out" face I've seen, and she greets him with a "Welcome sir". After some sketchy dialogue, Nevan states that she'll make his stay so enjoyable that he'll never want to leave. The battle begins, and she uses an array of electrical purple bats to battle. Near the end of the battle, she pulls her last desperate move out of the hat, which includes grabbing Dante and "sucking" his life from him to refill her own. Furthering my suspicions that she is a succubus.
When Dante defeats Nevan, she falls back and he catches her around the waist. She says he's "sweet", and darts up to bite him. He shoots her through the belly with a "you'd think so, wouldn't you?" Out of all honesty, I think Dante was being, for that moment, chivalrous. He acted no where near as nice to any of the other demons that guarded Temen-ni-Guru, though it's very possible the reason for that was that they were male. Despite his womanizing tendencies, Dante does seem to have a certain respect toward women—growing up with two strong women, his mother and his step-mother (in the novel). She tells him that his father was a "handsome devil", that if Nevan didn't know Sparda personally, that she's actually seen him. Given, it's also possible that Sparda was the one who asked her to guard Temen-ni-Gru.
To aid Dante, she turns into a wicked looking bright violet electric guitar that shoots out purple bats. It's the most unconventional weapon I've ever seen in an action-game series. It's a little hard to get used to, at first, but ends up doing some major damage in the long run. One of the special abilities is "Air Raid", an attack that Dante had while devil triggered in the first game.
