Dante seems to resolve his confusion after Vergil falls into Hell, and in Devil May Cry he's quite proud of both his human and demon heritage. As opposed to feeling anger toward his father, he has a lot of pride in the sacrifice that he made.. |
In all games, Dante was able to "devil trigger," meaning that he could access a demonic form for a certain amount of time that would make him more powerful. In Japan, it's known as the "majin" form. The meter below the health meter shows how long you can devil trigger, and is usually known as a "devil trigger gauge" or a "devil gauge," it usually goes up when you make a super-stylish combo, or you fight for a long time. A long devil trigger gauge can always be achieved by getting purple orbs. |
| When in devil trigger mode, or form, Dante has a more demonic resembelence. Since he's a half-breed, he has two forms: a human form, and a demon form. The demon form, from his father, Sparda, ranges in appearance. It can look like a giant cockroach to the slick, almost metallic appearance of the devil trigger in the third game. It always glows. |
| When in devil trigger, or majin form, Dante becomes loads more powerful. In the original Devil May Cry, accessing the devil trigger would also make your life go up. |
In the first Devil May Cry, Dante gets his first trigger form after gaining the weapon Alastor. It resembles a winged demon, and uses a lot of lightning based and aerial attacks. The second devil trigger that Dante receives is the form he gets when he gains Ifrit, this form has no wings, and is fire-based. The last trigger form is after Dante gets the Sparda. This form is more organic, and glows red. It's used in the last battle with Mundus when Dante must take flight and shoot devil trigger fireballs at him. |
Again, another organic looking devil trigger. This time, the weapon that Dante has equipped doesn't effect the devil trigger, but the different items called "amulet stones". The logic behind this is that when "half-human half-demon devil hunters" wear the amulets, that they're able to alter their devil trigger state. Three different stones can be worn in the same amulet, giving Dante three seperate powers at the same time. Dante can gain both "Quick Heart" and "Aerial Heart", giving him either speed or flight. These can be worn with "Frost Heart", "Electro Heart" or "Flame Heart". Each does damanage according to its respective element. Lastly, "Healing Heart", "Offence Heart" or "Chrono Heart" can be equipped. "Healing Heart" allows Dante to heal while in devil trigger mode, "Offence Heart" boosts his defense, and "Chrono Heart" makes the other demons on the screen move slower. |
| What this has to do with the other two games, I don't know; or where the amulets came from. I couldn't tell you. It's one of the mysteries lost in DMC2. |
Designed by Shin Megami Tensei's Kozy Okada, the devil triggers (both Dante's and Vergil's) change with each devil arm that's equipped. Since Dante gets his devil arms by defeating various demons throughout the game, his devil trigger corresponds to the devil arm that he has equipped at that time. |
| Dante faces a variety of different demons, or "guardians" of Temen-ni-Gru. When defeated, they each succumb to him and offer themselves to him in the form of a weapon. Cerberus becomes a three-pronged weapon called a san-chaku (which is similiar to a nan-chaku), Agni and Rudra become twin swords of fire and wind, Nevan becomes a scythe-guitar that shoots electric bats, and Beowulf becomes hand and foot gauntlets. Vergil's trigger also changes depending on what he has equipped. |
