There's not much to say about certain relationships—but I figure that I'd squeeze all I can out of an apple for this one. Most of them are the women that Dante comes in contact with in the last three games. I decided to move Vergil to his own section because there's so much between the two of them, and it felt like it deserved its own page. |
(DMC) When I worked at the Toys'R'Us, I got my first taste of Devil May Cry from the employee who worked in R-Zone, he recently picked up Metal Gear Solid, and found that it had a demo disk for Devil May Cry. After staying after and playing it for a good hour after work, I went to reserve it. It wasn't long after the release date that both me and him beat it, and had our own debate about the nature ofDante and Trish's final relationship. |
| He insisted that Dante and Trish got together in the end. I said that I wasn't entirely sure. They work together, yes, but that could also stem from Dante wishing to show her a new life. I'm not speaking because I don't like the pairing (as I do find it interesting)—what irks me half to death is the Oedipus Complex. Trish, as stated, looks exactly like Dante's mother, and where does that put us? I ranted more about that in a Mother's Guide, if you wanted to continue reading about it, but I figure that I'll talk more about their actual interaction. |
| Honestly, Dante and Trish's relationship is very difficult to explain, as, well, it's made so shallow that it's easy to make it deeper. For instance, Trish shows up at his doorstep, half-kicks his ass before he shoves a gun in her face and she backs down. She's not "testing" him, she's trying to effing kill him. When she realizes she's beat, she invites him to Mallet Island. What hits Dante suddenly, is that she resembles his mother, and thus, this is one of the reasons I believe that he followed her. |
| When Dante realizes that Trish was only out to destroy him, he flips out—but ends up saving her anyway. After the entire ordeal is over, he shoves his gun in her face again and tells her that "she may look like his mother, but she doesn't have her fire"; which leads me to think that it was one of the most prominent reasons why Dante followed Trish in the first place. It was what she was made for. When she sacrifices herself to save Dante, he seems to take a twist of emotion, and ends up screaming how he should have "been the one to fill her dark soul with light". In the end, it shows them walking out of Dante's building together. Trish with the Sparda, Dante with Alastor; and they run off. Highly inconclusive, but it seems that, if anything, they became good friends. It's debatable if they became more. |
| Her name is possibly from "Beatrice" ("Trice"—"Trish") in The Divine Comedy, Dante Aligheri's perfect idea of a woman. |
(DMC2) We only see her briefly with Dante in DMC2, unfortunately it's sort of a mystery who she is and what's she's trying to do. We know that she is the guardian of Dumary Island (known as Vie De Marli to the locals), an island of a kind branded as "religious heretics". In searching for the relics to seal an "evil God" known as Arius. Or, that's what I understood of it. Besides a few meetings, there doesn't really seem to be any other interaction between them. She does admit that she's "made" by Arius, along the same lines as Trish was made by Mundus, but there doesn't seem to be a real reason behind it. She has a strong sense of duty, and believes that she should be a sacrifice because of her heritage. Of course, Dante flips a coin, and ends up going to fight Argosax himself. |
(DMC3) She differs greatly from Trish and Lucia. She seems to be able to hold her own, even to Dante. She falls short when she battles Vergil; however, she has a fierce determination that doesn't allow her to be side-tracked from her missions (especially by Dante). She despises demons with a passion, as her father sacrificed her mother to become one. She hates her father, she continually hates on Dante, and she goes after Vergil once a [faux] dying Arkham tells her that Vergil is the one that brainwashed him into opening the gates of Hell. |
| Mary first meets Dante at the base of Temen-ni-Guru. He makes a comment, and she doesn't bother to reply, and instead shoots a missile at him, which he rides enthusiastically until she takes the bike and jumps through the ceiling. |
| The second time they meet, Dante catches her leg when Arkham pushes her off one of the top floors of the tower. He hits on her ... directly; and then she shoots him in the head. He ends up dropping her, and when he asks her why the hell she shot him in the head—she shoots him in the head again. She considers Dante a "demon" at most times, and tells him frequently that he wouldn't understand her motives because of this. She seems to be one of the only ones in the game with pure, vengeful motives—and Arkham even calls him a "pure sacrifice" when she is stabbed to open Hell. She has a fierce loyalty to her family, even Arkham, who constantly betrays her. She sees it as her "duty" to destroy him. |
| The third time, Dante assumes that she's asking him for a date, and replies with "Sorry, I don't date women who shoot me in the head," and, of course, she replies with: "Sorry, I don't date men who wreak like blood." After that, they begin massacring an unholy amount of demons together. When Dante asks for her name, she replies that she doesn't have one. So, he calls her "Lady." |
| Dante doesn't ever seem to discourage her thinking of him as a demon, even though he's also a halfling. Once Arkham defies her a second time, telling her that he was brainwashed by Vergil, she seems to be a little warmer to Dante; though still purely business. They both end up helping each other out in the end, though Dante's big-headedness is still present. She, of course, ends up leaving. |
(QUOTE IN DMC & DMC3 MANGA) He works as Dante's manager and right-hand man. The first exert we hear about Dante (located on the personality page) is from Enzo. He states how Dante is a pretty frightening individual, withstanding bullets and demons with ease. He seems to leave most of the dirty work up to Dante, and is a bit of a coward, himself. He enjoys spending time with the ladies, especially those at Love Planet (the local strip bar). He fears Dante's demonic power, as any human does. |
