The name "Trish" is short for Beatrice (pronounced in Italian bay'-a-tree-chay, in English bee'-a-tris), means "voyager (through life), blessed." The Latin base, Beatrice, means "bringer of joy." As with the name Sparda (from the Italian word "Spaada"), the creators could have decided to shorten her name because it was a little easier to pronounce and remember.

In Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy, she is Dante's guide through Paradise, and somewhat through both Inferno and Purgatory. Since Virgil, Dante Alighieri's first guide through Inferno cannot go to Paradise because he's a pagan, Beatrice guides him throughout the rest. She was also the inspiration for Dante's La Vita Nova. She is based on a real person, who Dante himself was smitten for. He met her twice, but fell madly in love with her in doing so, referring to her as "la gloriosa donna della mia mente", or "the glorious lady of my mind." He never told anyone of his love for her, and ended up marrying and having children, but his great admiration and love for her remained.

You could say that Mundus gave her that name to make fun of the reference to the twin's names: Dante and Vergil.

Trish is also short for "Patricia" which is the feminine form of "Patrick." This name is from Latin origin, and it means "noble" or "patrician."
